External Rotor Motor

What is an External Rotor Motor?

An external rotor motor is an electric motor design in which the rotor is positioned around the outside of the stator. In this configuration, the stator remains stationary at the center while the outer rotor rotates around it. The motor shaft is typically integrated with or directly connected to the rotor assembly. Specific motor technology (such as brushless DC or induction type) depends on the individual model.

Size and Specifications

External rotor motors are available in different sizes and electrical ratings depending on the model. Key parameters such as rated voltage, power output, speed range, torque, rotor diameter, and stack length vary by product. Please refer to the specifications listed for the individual model to confirm electrical and mechanical details.

Design Characteristics

In many external rotor designs, the rotating outer housing may be exposed to ambient airflow, which can support heat dissipation depending on installation conditions. Direct coupling between the rotor assembly and the driven component is possible in certain system configurations. Performance characteristics including torque, speed capability, noise, and vibration depend on motor construction, load conditions, and operating parameters.

Typical Applications

External rotor motors are commonly used in ventilation fans, blowers, compact drive systems, and various industrial or household equipment. Application suitability should be evaluated based on required torque, operating speed, duty cycle, installation space, and environmental conditions.
